Ukrainian Heritage School

Policies

School policies

All students are expected to conduct themselves at all times in a manner that will contribute to the best interest of the school and not infringe on the rights of others. Members of the school staff have the authority and the responsibility to take customary and reasonable measures to maintain proper control and discipline among students placed under their care and supervision. Any student who gives false information or wrongfully accuses another student or staff member may be subject to disciplinary action.

Registration and class changes

Registration for each school year is open until the deadline published in the school calendar. To be fair to every family, manage operating costs, and keep classes balanced, UHS applies the rules below to all registrations, re-registrations, and class-change requests. See the school calendar for this year’s deadline.

Registration deadlines

Deadlines are final
Families receive ample, clear notice of registration deadlines. Once registration closes, late registrations are not accepted.
Fairness to the community
Our programs rely heavily on unpaid volunteers and limited administrative resources. Late requests create significant additional work and financial strain, and accepting them would be unfair to families who followed the timeline.
Capacity limits
Class sizes are strictly limited, and many classes fill completely. Once a class is full, no further students can be enrolled in it.

Upper grades (9–12)

Grades 11 and 12
Enrollment in grades 11 and 12 is reserved for returning UHS students (re-registration only). New student applications for these grades are not accepted.
No grade skipping
Students in grades 9 through 12 may not skip a grade. No exceptions are made, so that the structure of the upper grades is preserved.

Lower grades (K–8)

Grade advancement requests
Unlike the upper grades, a grade jump may be considered for students in K–8. Such requests are not guaranteed: each one requires a comprehensive administrative review from both an academic and a social perspective.

Thank you for your cooperation, understanding, and commitment to keeping the UHS community fair and organized for everyone.

Classroom rules

Code of Conduct

A student who is well informed concerning their rights and responsibilities, and the standards of behavior expected, should not require disciplinary action. Consistent application of these standards by teachers, staff and administrators should result in fairness for all students (offenders and victims alike) and help our school better achieve its ultimate goal — educating the students.

A rule is violated whether the conduct takes place on school grounds at any time, or off school grounds at a school-supervised activity, function or event. The administration may take more severe action in serious situations or where a student has been involved in other infractions. All infractions are documented by administrators on UHS Incident Report Forms and filed in student records.

  1. Level I

    Minor infractions

Minor infractions that can be corrected and documented by any school personnel.

  2. Level II

    More serious offenses

Offenses that are more serious in nature, or persistent or serious Level I infractions, that require administrative involvement.

  3. Level III

    Significant disruptions

Offenses that significantly disrupt the educational process, school environment or school activities, or persistent or serious Level I or II infractions.

  4. Level IV

    Serious offenses

Willful or malicious acts that materially and substantially disrupt the educational environment, or Level I–III infractions depending on their severity or persistence.

Level I

Minor infractions

Consequences become progressively more severe if a student continues to violate Level I rules. The administrator may choose the most severe penalty at any time based on the student’s record and the severity of the offense, and may not use a less severe consequence without conferring with the disciplinary team.

Reporting: Level I violations may be reported by the teacher or staff member to the administrator and are handled exclusively within the school.
